“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

– Wayne Dyer

Great quote from a very quotable and inspirational teacher. Wayne Dyer is the guy whose writing started me out trudging this road to self improvement many years ago. His first best-seller (when I say “best-seller” I’m not making it up like too many people online do) “Your Erroneous Zones” flipped a switch in my head that quickly and decisively made the light come on.

I digress. What I want to do is talk briefly about that above quote and see if I can get you to thinking inwardly about what he said there. Hint: Dr. Dyer’s talking about your perspective.

Apply This Principle to Anything

We can easily take the quote and come up with some corollaries by simply changing a few words. Let’s try this:

“When you change the way you look at people, the people you look at change.”

Or substitute “a person” for people in that one and you can clearly see how you can easily transform a relationship, whether with a spouse, significant other or even a co-worker or boss.

Now let’s take a quantum leap and get to the real root of things:

“When you change the way you look at yourself, the self you look at changes.”

Read that again. It’s a very powerful statement.

Now think of how you would describe yourself TO yourself. NOT to someone else. What’s your self-talk like? Do you tell yourself you’re a winner or a loser? Failure or success? Worthy or not worthy of manifesting the life you’d like to have?

What’s Your Story?

What’s the story of ‘you’ that you tell yourself? Believe it or not, when you think about things, even yourself, you think in words, and the words you use make up your story. Think about that for a moment and if you don’t like the story you’re hearing, you might want to consider re-writing it.

I said a couple of paragraphs back that this is the real root of things. What I mean by that is that your story – your self-talk – will either enable or block your ability to change how you look at the world.

Examples: Low self-esteem tends to make people see themselves as victims and others as victimizers because they don’t see themselves as having any power over their own lives. Those lacking in self-respect seem to have trouble respecting others, and likewise don’t garner much respect FROM others.

To sum this up, how you see yourself and feel about yourself has a direct bearing on how you look at or see everyone and everything else. Heck, how you see LIFE!

And since the topic here is change, let me just say this: If you want to change your perspective on life and everything in it, you have to start by changing the way you see yourself.

Difficult? Not at all! Just find and use the right mind programing tools and you can effectively find a new you looking back in the mirror. And looking at the world anew.

Wishing you the very best,

Owen

In my first post to this blog I promised a review of the Ultimate Self-Talk Series once I got a feel for whether or not I thought it would work. As these mind programming tools don’t work overnight, it’s taken a while (over a month since my first post!) to find out.

Finally, as promised, here’s my personal review.

When I first received the 2-cd set in the mail, it took a bit of effort to figure out how to use it with the least effort. Yeah, I like things easy and straightforward. What I found was the easiest way to access the audios for regular use was to choose which of the eight programs I wanted to use, which ones fit with my current goals, then copy them to my hard drive.

The first program I decided to try is called Manifest An Abundant Life, since that’s exactly what I’m working toward at the moment. I used it for a couple weeks, then thought I’d try a different one. I switched to another of the eight programs, Achieve Amazing Wealth.

I know, it’s almost the same idea. But after just a few days and nights of “listening” to the audios, something amazing started to happen. Subtle, but amazing!

First, I noticed I’m not worried about a lack of money like I’ve been for years. Taking away a worry like that is freeing in itself. (Note, my finances didn’t change, only my attitude about them.) But still, that’s not the most phenomenal change.

Let me explain …..

I’ve been trying to learn more and new ways of making money online so I can have the kind of life and retirement I desire. My Dream Life.

I’ve read, downloaded and even paid for a lot of junk, to be honest with you. Programs promising quick and easy profits, but once you get into them, you find out it’s going to take weeks, not hours.

Very frustrating! And I acquired so much information I lost track of where to find things I knew I had read!

Here’s what happened:

After using the Achieve Amazing Wealth program, suddenly I had a few high-quality, honest and proven sources of tutoring dropped in my lap! Programs that sell not instant gratification, but patient and long term success. Is this not a good example of the Law of Attraction happening here? I think so.

By the way, the Ultimate Self-Talk Series consists of eight core programs, each including three separate audio sessions: one for morning (like when you’re getting ready to go to work), one for daytime (I’m playing that one as I type this) and one for nighttime that you can play on repeat or loop as you sleep.

“I say that’s life
And as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks
Stompin’ on your dreams…”

(From “That’s Life” as sung by Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra, et al.)

You’ve probably heard the term “dream stealer” before, right? This is a person, usually someone close to you like a family member, friend or co-worker, who tries to convince you to give up your dream for this or that reason.

We can’t really blame them, since they think they’re protecting us, looking out for our best interests. The fact is, they’re interpreting our dreams through their negative perspectives and seeing nothing but doom, gloom and failure. Certainly, THEY would never attempt to do anything as bold as what you’re planning to do – like improve your life by breaking out of the humdrum lot most people are satisfied to stay in.

What Do You Do To Protect Your Dreams From These People?

The obvious answer to that question is, you distance yourself from them as much as you can. You don’t allow their negativity to derail your positive thinking. And don’t talk to them about your plans, hopes and dreams.

As simple as that sounds, though, it might not be all that easy if they’re family members or close associates. Consider, this might be someone you’re MARRIED to! THEN what?

A Whole New Kind of Dream Stealer

I’ve discovered there’s a whole new category of dream stealer, one who tends to bury your positive thinking before you can even get your dream into full visualization. The person or people who seem to want to pile-drive you right into the ground when you’re just spreading your wings to fly. In short, they overwhelm you with negative energy – just when you get a positive charge going they come along and somehow ground it or short it out.

This is going to be a person who has a lot of influence over your daily life: a bad boss, for example, or worse yet, a spouse. I find myself presently under the influence of both of these people. Well, not just the boss but the whole management team where I work. Now, since my dream is precisely to get away from having to work for anyone ever again, I’m not going to let the job-related negativity stop me. It’s an irritant but in actuality, it strengthens my dream!

Then there’s the wife. Maybe you or someone you know has a similar problem? In my case, my wife is from another country and her dream has been (and apparently still is) to live and work in the USA long enough to be eligible for Social Security, something I just can’t see as a “dream” to me! It’s more like an endless nightmare I’m trying to get away from. I’ve spent too many years selling or renting myself to a job, even when I owned the business.

My dream is to make enough passive income to retire and live a comfortable life, preferably in another country: Mexico, Panama, Ecuador, whatever – someplace warm and cheap. So my wife’s dream and mine are going in opposite directions. Could I expect much support or encouragement from her in working toward my dream? I’d guess not.

I’m not saying she’s consciously trying to submarine my plans, my dreams and my efforts to get there but without her support and tolerance of all the hours I need to put into it, it’s not easy.

And what if I DO get to the point I can quit working for someone else and relocate and she doesn’t want to go? I suspect she thinks she can get me to change my plans to fit hers.

Anyway, with this conflict of future plans, it seems the more I try to get positive about it, the more negativity I get from her. Funny, isn’t it, how self-centered we all are in some way?

If you intend to Manifest your dream life, make sure those closest to you support your dreams and the effort you’re going to need to put into getting there. It will certainly make the trip go a lot faster and smoother! If they don’t, go back and read the third paragraph above.

Owen

I'm going to be documenting and commenting on my progress through this whole process of becoming a positive thinker, right on to giving manifesting a good, honest try. If I find anything that works for me, I'll recommend it to my readers. If I see something I think is a rip-off, I'll tell you that, too.

When I first started hearing about Manifesting (or Cosmic Ordering, depending on who’s talking about it) my reaction was it’s a bunch of BS, just another way for people to prey on unhappy, regular people to make money selling hollow promises. To my way of thinking, there was no way you could just order money or anything else from the Universe and expect to get anything. Except maybe MORE disappointment.

The Reality

What I found out, though, is that the very thing that would make it impossible for me to have any success with manifesting anything good into my life was that same way of thinking that told me it wouldn’t work. Negative thinking. Skepticism. Cynicism.

Because my way of thinking and seeing the world - my normal attitudes and outlook – is (or was) so ingrained, I didn’t see anything wrong with it. When someone mentioned my negativity, I didn’t agree; I thought I was just telling it like it is. Yeah, “like it is” as seen through my gray, as opposed to rose, colored glasses.

How did I gain this perspective on life? Who cares? It doesn’t matter now. All that matters is, I want to change it!

FACT: In all the information I’ve seen, read or heard about the Law of Attraction or Manifesting, not ONCE has it been mentioned that if you want to attract any positive change into your life, you FIRST have to have – or develop - positive thinking. Go ahead, if you haven’t already, watch The Secret and see if I’m right.

How, and What Am I Doing?

I’ve been working on that for a little while now. Reading, buying and using subliminal audios, practicing more positive self talk. I found and downloaded a free positive thinking subliminal audio and if I play it on loop when I go to bed, it seems to help. (I suspect one you’d have to pay for might be better.) And I just ordered a package called The Ultimate Self-Talk Series . I’ll be writing a review of it soon, and obviously, since I’m going to be using it myself, I hope it’s an excellent review! If you want to check it out, click on the title – it’s a link. Well, duh, it’s probably blue.:-)

The reason I decided to try the Self Talk Series is I read somewhere that the words we consciously choose to use actually program our sub-conscious minds, even as they give a hint to what’s already programmed in. An example: We recently had a very hot spell and one day my wife said something like, “They say it’s going to be worse tomorrow.” Her perspective obviously was that the hot weather was bad, even though she kept saying she likes it warm. So her expectation for the next day was that she was going to be miserable. Which, of course, came true for her. I, on the other hand, chose to say “It’s going to be hotter.” Neither good nor bad, just what is. And the next day I didn’t feel any different.

Alright, So What’s the Point?

I’m going to be documenting and commenting on my progress through this whole process of becoming a positive thinker, right on to giving manifesting a good, honest try. If I find anything that works for me, I’ll recommend it to my readers. If I see something I think is a rip-off, I’ll tell you that, too.
